Spring Snow

After our on and off snowfall all day yesterday, it finally started to settle in the evening. We woke up to a winter wonderland that lasted pretty much all day. Since we don’t get too much snow in this part of the world, it’s amazing that we’ve had 3 significant snowfalls this winter and two of them very late!

It was a perfect atmosphere in which to stay home and watch the very last races of the cross country ski season. Today were the freestyle races, 10k for the women and 15k for the men. Each was a ‘pursuit’ which means the start was staggered for each skier depending on the results in the earlier races this weekend. It was fairly obvious who would come in first for both races but there were big battles for second and third place. The women’s was particularly exciting to watch and I was very happy to see Jessie Diggins from the US come in second behind Marit Boergen from Norway. And as if that wasn’t enough, the third place also went to an American - Sadie Bjornsen!  Considering that the US has only recently developed a strong cross country team that was very exciting!

There were 3 women skiers who were retiring after this last race of the season, from the US, Sweden and Finland, so there were lots of celebrations at the finish line with silly hats and capes and champagne. It’s fun to see the camaraderie between them all. I will miss watching the skiing every weekend - thanks to my friends Alice and Elisabet for getting me hooked!!

So now let’s get rid of the snow and get on with spring and summer!  I’m eager for warm weather and having some adventures in the campervan!
