Tribune Tower, Chicago - The Rock Collection

I woke up in Chicago - a sunny but windy and cold day. I didn’t venture out until lunchtime but I enjoyed a walk around the area. This is the Tribune Tower on Michigan Avenue - a neo-Gothic skyscraper with 36 floors, built in 1925. It was the home of the Chicago Tribune newspaper and Tribune media and has recently been sold for mixed development. WGN radio broadcasts from the building which you can hear as you walk past. It’s listed as a Chicago Landmark and is part of the Michigan-Wacker Historic District.

Embedded into the outside walls of the building are a collection of 150 rocks from historically significant buildings around the world. All 50 states are included as well as examples from around the world - the Taj Mahal, The Great Wall of China, The Berlin Wall, Westminster Palace, The Royal Castle in Stockholm (see Extra) and many more. In addition, a rock from the moon is on display in one of the windows.
