Animal or gravestone?

This morning I went to U3A where we had a talk about four local children (ranging from 4 to 8 years) sold to The Mayflower as workers (or slaves) until they were adults. They sailed to America with the Pilgrim Fathers but only one survived the voyage. He worked his way up eventually owning his own ship.  It must have been terrible to be poor or a woman in those days!

My blip is of a couple of very old gravestones in the village churchyard, they always remind me of an animal.  Who knows what lies under that covering of ivy?!

The shields in the background mark the entrance to the castle car park.
