Montmorillon

We have arrived in Montmorillon (in teeming rain). The caravan site is a municipal site and is beautifully kept, if the sanitaire are a little dated.  A stream runs through the grounds and a riverside park sits by the Gartempe across the road. The town centre is ten minutes walk away.

Today was half day closing so we have yet to acquaint ourselves properly with the town, which will be our closest shopping town after we settle in Lathus. We found the Macaron shop today, which happily turns out to be also a chocolatier. We bought a dozen Macarons. The shop lady warned us to keep them in the fridge and to eat them within ten days. "Dix jours!" I scoffed, As If. No doubt they will all be gone by tomorrow: Blackberry and Blackcurrant flavour, they are sure to prove irresistible.

The best result of the day was to discover that our local town is the French equivalent of Hay on Wye or Wigtown. What fun we might have had on a not-closing day!

We did find that the English language book shop was open. It was perfect. Just the perfect evocation of an imagined second hand book shop. Silver-haired gentleman and ginger cat included, and with a perfect name "The Glass Key" I spent some while browsing the cookery books and will return time and again, I believe.
