GOOD FRIDAY

If you’re a believer, and even if you aren’t, 
this is what Good Friday is all about.

I pricked my finger 
     and it bled
          when I was making
               the crown of thorns
but I carried on
     because I wanted
          to inflict more pain
               not just on myself
but on all those
     who have ever
          hurt me.
But then I heard 
     a still, small voice
          saying
“My child, 
     please don’t
          carry on punishing yourself
               and others - 
I took your place and
     was crucified for you all
          so that you could 
LIVE again.
