Several Days' Breakfast

Today's photo was taken inside this bright spot on a dull day. Located in the Sunnyland neighborhood of Bellingham, Homeskillet offers breakfast all day Tuesday-Sunday and lunch Tuesday-Friday.

We had to drop our VW Jetta off nearby for a quick repair this morning, so trying Homeskillet's lauded breakfast menu seemed like a good idea. And it was -- we had plenty to eat this morning, and enough leftovers for two more mornings! Homeskillet is owned by Kirby and Tina, who met as cooks in Antarctica, got married in New Zealand, traveled the world, and then opened this cafe in their own neighborhood.

It's definitely not "fast food," but there are so many interesting things to look at in the small cafe, such as Santa and a quartet of lava lamps in the fireplace -- and locally-roasted "Velvet Elvis" coffee to enjoy -- that the wait for Kirby's perfect crispy home fries and homemade sausage or personal 8-inch (20 cm) cast iron skillets filled with an amazing array of items goes by quickly.

We sat at one of the tables in the small dining area today; maybe next time we'll try the counter seating, with this view -- everything coming out of the small kitchen!
