Rosemary

Tiny Tuesday: Rosemary

Back at work today, but it is only a four day week so definitely nothing to get too down hearted about.  On arriving home in the late evening sunshine I saw that the Rosemary bush is in flower.  It is in the shade of a couple of small trees and a hedge which probably means that ours is flowering late.  I love the almost electric blue colour of the stamen here.  You would not normally notice them unless you have very good eyesight as the flowers are quite small.

One of the great things about Blip is that, being a journal, it often encourages me to undertake a little research about whatever it is that I have been photographing.  I often learn something new in the process, and today's piece of knowledge is that in the Middle Ages, rosemary was associated with wedding ceremonies. Wikipedia tells me that brides would wear a rosemary headpiece and the groom and wedding guests would all wear a sprig of rosemary. It is apparently from this association with weddings that rosemary became thought to be a love charm.
