Diary of an Edinburgher

A chance meeting

Gym✔️

It was a real struggle on the cross trainer again this morning. But on the way out, who should I meet, but my surgeon! Wow!

'How are you?' he asked, by way of conversation.
'Funny you should ask. Not great, actually...'

I didn’t hold back. But he asked me to make an appointment with him. Yay! I need someone who's seen knees like this before and knows what I should be doing to fix 'em.

Elizabeth came to take Archie out. And what a nice day they had too. I even went out without a hat!

We walked across to Bruntsfield for a dog-less lunch. 'The Chop House' is newly opened, and we went in. Loud music. No room, so we were to be escorted downstairs. No thanks. My knees were an excuse.

We happened into the tiny 'Three Birds'. Yes, they had room for us. The screechy muzak nearly sent me out, but I’m so glad we stayed. What a fabulous menu - really interesting stuff you wouldn’t normally see. Two courses for £12. And a glass of wine for £4! We were both pleased with our choices. I had sea trout, and it was just perfect. JR had chicken kiev in a curry sauce. Sounds odd, but it was also delicious. Huge tempting dessert menu, too. I had 'Carrot Cake Mess' - a take on Eton Mess, with carrot cake ice cream. JR had a delicious silky chocolate mousse-y thing.

Popped round for an artisan coffee and chatted about Brexit with a lovely red haired, pale skinned Irish lass.

Archie came back home, tired out after his big walk with Elizabeth and her friend Linda. Good excuse for some nibbles and G&Ts.

Here he is, relaxing on Elizabeth’s leg. He had the new smaller, dietary version of his evening meal, then went and kicked at the door where his food is kept. Was he trying to tell us something?
