Cherkley Court

Cherkley Court was once the home of Lord Beaverbrook,  politician and owner of the Express Newspapers group, and he lived there for the fifty years from 1910. During Beaverbrook's time, the house attracted many famous weekend guests including Winston Churchill, H.G. Wells, Harold Macmillan and Rudyard Kipling. By 2002 it had fallen into disrepair and eventually it was sold in 2010 to a large company who submitted a planning application to develop the estate into a hotel, spa and golf course. A legal tussle ensued for the next four years between the developers and the opposition parties who wanted to maintain this green belt area and said that Surrey did not need another golf course as it already had 141 golf courses! However the appeal was finally reversed in May 2014 and building went ahead, and last summer Beaverbrook opened with a small boutique hotel, spa, 18 hole exclusive golf course, restaurants and a very sophisticated cocktail bar. I met a friend there today for a light lunch and it was lovely to sit in the garden house and enjoy fresh ingredients from their own garden. This view is part of the grounds that make up the golf course.

Luke had physio again this morning and he is coming along nicely, he still has to get the swelling down so she can manipulate his leg further. He is being very diligent by cycling on the stationary bike three times a day and icing throughout the day as is required.
