Butterbur

Apparently the common name comes from the fact that the large leaves used to be utilised for wrapping butter in pre-fridge times... although there are none in the photo as the leaves appear after the flowers.

It was a rather beautiful if somewhat grey walk today from Alport, taking in stretches of the rivers Lathkill and Bradford and finishing with tea and the most enormous slice of cake at Caudwell's Mill at Rowsley, in fact it was so huge that I took half of it home to my son.
