Skye's 8th Anniversary

Eight years to the day since Skye arrived (along with Ruby). Easily our longest lived chook, and since Margot, one of our first pair, passed away, Skye has been right at the top of the pecking order.

We still get the very occasional egg from her, and she still asserts herself over Freya and Arya (who had their two year anniversary a few weeks back) every now and then, just so they remember who is in charge. She even still holds sway over the cat, and will give her a chase if she's in the mood.

It's funny looking at pictures of her when she first arrived, with the tiny comb, and so slight. She filled out after a year or so, and since has been blinkin' huge, and (save when she goes through an annual moult) has that classic chunky hen shape, with the perfectly upright tail. And one random iridescent green feather on her flank.

And all this after surviving a fox attack when she was a year old; winding up spending a night at the emergency vet to have her neck stitched. Pets, not livestock.
