Hingin’ Aboot!

It’s on its way! 16° of heatwave! A cloudy sky and a wind of 15mph does nothing to dispel the euphoria of reaching the highest temperature since last summer.

The fact of having to don a raincoat to strut our stuff this morning after early rain was forgotten as we trudged home from town in unaccustomed heat against the tide of humanity on the Bridges. The High Street was relatively empty however, allowing this ghost tour leader to ‘hang aboot’, (please notice the pun) with the permanent resident of the kiosk.

My book group is having it’s first meeting tonight since January such are the packed diaries of some of the members. It was never this difficult to schedule meetings when we had children at home. The bus passes have never been to well used now that we have empty nests

For those interested, the book we are discussing is ‘Jerusalem the Golden’ by Margaret Drabble. It is very much a book of its time, a novel concerning the blossoming of women’s lib in the 60s. For me, although some of it resonated, it was the kind of verbose book that acted as a non addictive sleeping pill.
I may be shot down in flames by my fellows..........
