Mr & Mrs

This amusing gritstone pair form a naturally eroded sculpture above Edale, at the top of Ringing Roger on the southern edge of Kinder Scout. To my eyes he’s getting a right scolding, but shrugging his shoulders in response. Anyone else see that?

Peter accompanied me on a recce to prepare for a remote terrain navigation training weekend I’m organising for Senior Section in the Summer. We walked 16km over 6 hours, taking care to find a variety of little features. Mostly it was fun and it started sunny, albeit breezy, affording splendid views across to Mam Tor and Lose Hill from the edge of Kinder Plateau.

The end of the day was chilly and wet however and the latter part of the route too long and dull, via unfriendly farms. I shall need to find a shorter alternative.

Having not had a great drive up from Herts, we started walking late, then took longer than expected and arrived very late (and wet) at the hotel. We were really looking forward to a hot bath, a delicious dinner, a good glass of wine and a sound night’s sleep, but sadly we enjoyed none of the above! Needless to say we won’t be staying there again. Even the coffee was undrinkabke.
