a lifetime burning

Waiting

This April has turned cold as she draws to her close.  The growth of the flowering plants seems to have stalled slightly while they wait for a return of more clement weather. Today only a dull grey light seeps through the blanket of cloud that has settled overhead, bringing a promise of cold rain.

In just a few days May should come dancing in, bringing the promise of Summer; but it is hard to imagine that she will, just at the moment.  The Winter King seems particularly reluctant to release his bony grasp on us this year.

Yet, summer is not too far away and yes, there will be time for long afternoons sitting outdoors reading in the shade while the sun bakes the ground.  There will be time for cold drinks chilling on ice, while the smells of barbecues waft through the early evening air.  There will be time to feel the heat of the sun in one’s bones and enjoy the chill sweetness of ice cream.

But it is not yet.

Just not yet.

Soon … perhaps?
