Mixing it up!

Today, we explored El Barrio Santa Cruz, the vibrant former Jewish quarter with a wealth of historical sites, tiny cobblestone streets, beautiful houses with internal courtyards -- and loads of tourists ;)

It's also home to the Giralda Cathedral, the world's largest gothic cathedral. It started as a mosque (built in the 12th century) before its conversion to a cathedral in the 13th century. In spite of the massive reconstruction, two parts of the mosque were preserved: the Moorish entrance and the Giralda bell tower. Majestic!

The view pictured here is the Moorish entrance, along with the massive doors with Moorish inscriptions, with the gothic cathedral in the background.

So many pix to choose from... In the extra, a more typical street shot.  Just because :)
