Tawny mining bee

The Spring shrubs are finally struggling into blossom here. There is a Berberis in my rose garden that has been there since we moved here. I initially cut it and its partner down when the children were small as it has such vicious thorns. One of them died but this one came back stronger than ever and now it is appreciated as a rich early nectar source. There were several bumblebees and this fine solitary bee, a really large and distinctive Andraena.
The flowering currant has been similarly treated in the past, but now I am a bee enthusiast it will have to stay, for all its garish pink and dull summer foliage.
I guess I have become more tolerant!
