Wrest Park

We took advantage of the sunshine to visit Wrest Park in Bedfordshire. We'd been meaning to go for ages. It's very impressive, in Louis XV style, but no longer lived in by a family, and all the contents were sold off around 1917 I think. Only a small part of the house is open to the public, as all the rest appears to be offices. The extensive park has been restored to how it would have looked originally and the vistas are as impressive as those at Stowe Park, though much more formal compared to Stowe's more relaxed classical landscape. It would be difficult to explore such a large park in one visit so we'll have to go back for another go sometime.

The picture shows the Chinese temple, one of various buildings positioned around the landscape.
