Suffolk Roadtrip Day 2!

Beach Life, Southwold

How often do we get to enjoy such stunning weather on a Bank Holiday?! (In the mid 20s again!) So after a leisurely start to the day, packing up camp, we headed south along the coast to Southwold, a wonderful discovery. At the time, we thought how busy the pier and beach were, but having seen pictures of Bournemouth and Southend on Sea on the television, Southwold was pleasantly quiet!

A stroll along the seafront past colourful beach huts (main photo and extra 1) took us to the pier where we stopped for a drink, with views along the beach and beyond to the town and lighthouse (extra 2). Following the promenade above the beach (extra 3), we climbed up to the lighthouse which, unlike most lighthouses, was situated in the middle of the town (extras 4 & 5).

Southwold’s lighthouse may be different to other seaside resorts, but their hungry seagulls were no different, waiting patiently for any stray chips. I don’t know if the two ladies in extra 6 were aware of the vultures above their heads! After a quintessential seaside lunch of chips and ice cream (the diet starts next week!), we chugged our way home through the beautiful Suffolk countryside, past golden fields of Rapeseed and Bluebell-carpeted woods (extra 7). Such a wonderful day, if only we could’ve kept driving and exploring...
