If you can't beat them...

Fritillaria meleagris

I go off for a trip with my brother in his campervan around this time every year.  So as well as my usual socialising on a Thursday there was an element of preparation and planning.   We are off for a few days on Sunday, hopefully for him to see dolphins although the tides don't look very convenient.

The result of this was that at 7:30 I was wandering round the garden pointing the camera at random plants.  I settled for the Snakeshead Fritillary.  We planted these many years ago and they have settled well with the odd white flower appearing.

They are native to damp meadows in this country.  Once common they are now a very rare sight.  The loss of 95% of wildflower meadows has probably been the main cause.  The "Coronation Meadows" scheme may help to reverse this.
