Newcastle Downunder

Dueling cameras in the enchanted forest

If you have seen Gitamas post you will know that before we left the mountains we had a stroll through the forest to Python rock.  The rainforest around the area is really magical with huge trees and strangler vines.  Higher branches were dripping with orchids, bird nest ferns and elk horns.  Not much light gets in so it is quite dark walking along the path but then there is the music of all the bird calls and rustling in the undergrowth of the scrub turkeys and log runners.  At times there is a bit of break in the canopy  and you catch a glint of the sun.  There were lots of fungi around but they all seemed quite dry most probably because there hasn't been much rain up that way.  I have put one up in the extra we found which would have been the size of a cabbage.

We saw two or possibly three lyrebirds taking off at great pace through some more scrubby area near the edge of the escarpment but we didn't catch up with them again.

At this point I asked G to sit by the trees with the vines to give it a bit of scale.

G dropped me at Coolangatta airport and I am now back home.  I did get a huge welcome by Hamish and Poppy.  It always good to be back home particularly with a welcome like that but boo I am back to work tomorrow.

Thanks G, Tom and Wendy for a wonderful weekend.
