Old and Not So Old

To the Palace of Knossos today - the last of our tour.  It was excavated early in the 20th Century and partially restored in line with the thinking of the time. There's a lot of concrete - but on the other hand, if there wasn't it would be very hard to form an impression of how the buildings actually stood.  

The above paving is as it was three and half thousand years ago, worn and polished by the feet of the Minoans. The extras - more pithoi, still in situ, and the throne room with seat and lustral basin  (no-one is sure what it was for) and wall-paintings.

And now it's off to the party!
