Garden Pond in May

I thought we were in for more thunderstorms today; it was hot and humid first thing when we were out for our walk. The fractured clouds were indicative of storms later in the day.

It was not to be as during the afternoon the humidity dropped and the atmosphere cleared giving a pleasant end to the day. Mind you, it was still seriously warm as we tacked a severe pruning of the large Japonica in the back garden, something g we’ve been wanting to do for a few years but never quite got a round tuit (around to it)

Yesterday’s storms were caused by the Spanish Plume, a funnel of exceptionally warm air moving northwards coming up against a mass of cold air and being forced to rise over the colder air. If the conditions are right it can lead to spectacular storms which of course it did. The BBC New app reported that even the Meteorological Office were astounded by the amount of lightening recorded.

There was a new arrival in the Scottish branch of the family. A third child for Susan’s niece and her husband. In the vernacular, a wee girl, all’s well, baby’s home and getting to know her sister and brother. Great Auntie Susan (and I suppose Great Uncle) for the fifth time.

Struggling for a blip today, choice of the greenhouse or the pond, the pond won it.
