I Want My Mummy

This baby blackbird has been lurking around our garden for a few days now. I was pulling some weeds up on Wednesday and it shot out from under the bush I was working at - I don’t know who was more surprised, me, the bird or poor Finlay who jumped a couple of feet in the air as it ran past.

Then yesterday, I disturbed it again as I was watering some plants, and Finlay tried to catch it. On both occasions the parents were nearby and let us know of their disapproval.

Today it is sheltering under a trellis. Mum and dad are still looking after it.

I don’t know if it is injured or just not fully fledged - I hope it can be protected and survives. It can certainly run fast if it needs to!
