Lathyrus Odoratus

Purple Hairstreak

Absolute stunner - the first time I have ever seen Purple Hairstreak at ground level and the first time I've ever photographed one. They are one of our most beautiful species but are seldom seen mainly because they inhabit the treetops and only usually become active in the evening. This one may have just emerged from a subterranean pupation site. Two Hairstreak species in one week is a real treat. Total species seen has now risen to 33 (I saw eight fresh White Admiral - my  32nd species - on the same morning walk with the spaniel).
