Carrots and Unicorns

It’s not everywhere you pop out for a carrot and bump into a unicorn. This one near the Mercat Cross outside St Giles Cathedral was standing patiently beside its handler and a collecting can, all of them swathed in brown foliage.

Having never been a fan of Harry Potter ( shush, ‘Tell it not in Gath....’), this is perhaps some scene from one of A.K Rowling‘s books, or it may simply be some enactment from another tale altogether. I plead ignorance.

Having mentioned Harry Potter, I constantly wonder at the hordes of foreign tourists jostling us Edinburghers into the roadway under the wheels of passing traffic while they spill over the pavement taking photos of the Elephant House Café on George IV bridge which is happy to claim that it is where the Harry Potter books were written. We residents know otherwise.
The Elephant House did not even exist when the first book was written. Instead she wrote it in a café in Nicholson Street, but the latter is keeping quiet on that score.
