Afloat on a sea of bikes

A day at the National Trust property at Snowshill, home of the eccentric collector Charles Padget Wade. He bought the Manor simply to house his extensive unconnected artefacts. Not entirely unconnected as all the items had the common theme of being examples of craftsmanship and skill which was in danger of being lost.

Today’s blip is of one of the many rooms devoted to his unique objects, bikes, boats, carts, all without labels of any explanation.

Charles Wade didn’t live in the Manor although guests used to stay there. He lived in the Priests House adjacent to the Manor which, as far as I could see looked exactly the same as the rooms in the Manor.

Another of his significant interests was that of Wolfs Cove Model Village which he started in 1907 and is now being restored and recreated by Trust Volunteers.

Very interesting gardens too, all laid out in his indomitable style.

We followed a very scenic walk from the Manor which took us up hill and down dale with some great views of our green and pleasant land, Broadway Tower, the Cotswold Escarpment and the Vale of Evesham.

Our turn to cook tonight, a sausage casserole and fresh fruit salad which seemed to be well received. I introduced people to the delightful combination marmite and peanut butter on crackers (even better on toast). Only one dissenter, the others were pleasantly surprised.
