Modular

There is a big push towards modular construction in the UK, essentially - as with this “Urban Splash” site in Salford - building new homes in factories and then transporting them to site to fit out. It saves on all the trades required on site (and there are real fears about a lack of skilled labour post Brexit), and should make construction a lot quicker.

People will have their own views about the design of this scheme, and about living in modular homes. These seem to have sold fast, and are not cheap.

Beyond these houses at Irwell Riverside (for once a name which makes sense) is another development at an advanced stage of construction - 101 Greengate, now Salford’s tallest building.

And in the extra, another construction site, Salboy’s scheme on Blackfriars. The cement mixers on this queue of lorries were all turning, it must be taking a lot of concrete to build these towers.
