Wensleydale

A bit of an EB with an abstract “edge”. Geometrically, circular and a crescent, with an added ..... telescope..

This plaque sits in the entrance to the former Swinton and Pendlebury Town Hall, now part of Salford Civic Centre.

It commemorates the community of Swinton and Pendlebury adopting HMS Wensleydale during Warship week in 1942. This was all part of a national savings scheme invented during the Second World War to raise money to build battleships, aircraft carriers, destroyers, cruisers and smaller ships to replace those lost and add to those needed. It was I believe hugely successful.
