Psalmist with a camera

Bowled Over!

The other day whilst browsing through some blips I came across the mention of an unusual sounding game called Petanque.

Wondering what on earth it could be that was being played with so much enthusiasm and competitiveness.......I did a google search and discovered it was the familiar game of boules or as I knew it, Jaques!

Excitement rose because I knew somewhere in the deep recesses of the, 'yet to be unpacked boxes' there was a long forgotten set!! Fortunately, this weekend GK and I are doing a 'table top' sale so it necessitated us rummaging through some of the said boxes to de-clutter and retake possession of floor space that is otherwise out of bounds!

Guess what re-appeared from the depths? A quick dusting down and it was ready for a blip....When I opened the box...it had a whole history in its lid......amazing!

Originating in Greece during the Middle Ages it was purported to be the game being played by Frances Drake while he was waiting for the arrival of the Armada.

Eat your hearts out.....we're right up there with royalty...(Think Elizabeth 1st was his boules partner!) Thank you CG for bringing it all back to memory. Maybe I'll manage to persuade GK to take a trip out into the park for a game this weekend and start a new trend amongst the populace!

Happy blipping Everyone
