Lavender Fest

It was a bit naughty, but today I went Lavender field hunting and drove round the M25 and up the M1 to Hitchen to find a new recommendation: Hitchen Lavender at Cadwell Farm.

This was one of the better sites I'd visited, if only for the fact that it was not overrun with tourists, and they even give you a paper bag and scissors to harvest your own bunches.  After a lovely lunch in the cafe, I spent 3 hours or so wondering round the picking field which was literally humming with bees and butterfies, before heading back to the cafe for a much needed ice cream and drink.

Those who regularly have to negotiate the motorways and major roads around London will understand that the journey home on a hot Friday night in Summer was less than pleasant, but a fish and chip supper sitting in the garden at the end more than made up for it!
