Rose of Sharon

I remember my mother having a Rose of Sharon bush when I was a child. It's one of the few plant names I learned as a kid who basically had no interest in her mother's flower garden. I don't remember when I planted mine. I also forgot I even had it for a long time - and it has grown tall and spindly because it's in an overly shady place. But - to my delight - it's blooming prettily this year.
