From the Tour Montparnasse

Up at a reasonable time today! Quick breakfast in our room and we were off to the Tour Montparnasse! No queues! Straight up the 56 floors to the top! The views are great, especially the views of the Eiffel Tower! We also managed to work out where the four towers of the BNF were. They were built to look like four open books. I love that idea! We had some drinks and shared a large piece of flan at the top! ( prices surprisingly good for the top of a tower!)

A quick look round the shops (three new books) and we had lunch in an Italian place. Best Caesar salad I’ve had for ages! Lovely desert made up of three little desserts!

We hung around expecting a cousin to contact us. We decided that we had the wrong phone numbers so walked to her office! Explained to the security guy, charming ! She hadn’t been at work today! Finally gave up and left message on Facebook!

On the way to her office we passed the lion sitting in the middle of the Denfert-Rochereau square! A beautiful beast! I remember he was one of my first souvenirs of Paris when I was seven. I came to Paris with my mother and we spent most of the week being feted by various family members and always going back to base here! I loved that lion!! It is the Lion of Belfort. The General Denfert-Rochereau fought in the Franco-Prussian war 1870. The square also has catacombs used by the resistance.

At this point we went back to our base and rested. Tomorrow it’s the journey home!
