A long day...and bad news

It's been a very long day - we left home at 5.15am this morning and finally drove into the garage of the apartment in Switzerland at 7.30pm. Okay we did stop for breakfast...and for lunch....and to let Murdoch stretch his legs. The journey went very smoothly and the scenery throughout France was wonderful - so many picturesque fields with big hay bales dotted all over them, fields of bright yellow sunflowers, patchwork fields of green, yellow and gold surrounding pretty villages....all so beautiful but all out of reach for a photo stop. I did manage to get this image of a farmer busy at work in his wheat field, and I liked the golden field against the blue sky. I have also added an extra of sunrise over the M25 as we drove towards Folkestone this morning to get the Euro tunnel train.

Murdoch was so well behaved throughout the journey, he is a seasoned traveller and has been to Switzerland every summer since he was born - every summer that is apart from the last two summers when we did not come due to circumstances (moving house last year and building works in the apartment building the year before). He is going to love the long walks here in the mountains!

And now the bad news....last night as we were going to bed Adam phoned to say he had hit a fox while travelling at 70km per hour on a dual carriageway - it just ran out in front of him late last night. The car is quite badly damaged in the front and the brakes failed when the brake fluid was discharged on impact and so he could not drive it. He sat waiting for quite a while for help and his car was finally towed back to Cambridge in the early hours of this morning. He now has to arrange for it to be towed to a garage to get repaired, all rather expensive and inconvenient.

And then more very bad news...Luke had his 3 month check up tonight with the ortho surgeon to follow up on his knee post the ACL repair. He is busy working in London for 6 weeks and was even going to consider cancelling the appointment as his knee feels fine and it was a big effort to get to the hospital in Chertsey from London after work - its good thing he went, as the surgeon gave him the shocking news that despite his knee healing so well and being so much stronger from all the physio - the ACL repair now seems to have stretched and loosened, whereas on previous checkups it was looking so good. He wants to scan Luke's knee as soon as possible - he will go on Saturday morning as he does not want to take off work - and there is a chance he may have to redo the operation. Luke will go back and see him next Monday again. It is a big blow and I really hope that more surgery won't be required, but the surgeon said it was not looking promising.

Its been a tiring day and we are now heading off to bed.
