Wide Wednesday: Nature

This is the view from Studland across the bay to Old Harry Rocks (Swanage is just round the corner).

A lovely quiet spot, away from the hubbub of Bournemouth. A short drive , five minute ride across the chain ferry, and you’re in a different world.

Before we moved here, we regularly went across to the *Isle of Purbeck (*almost, but not actually an island). The perfect respite after the big city. Much is National Trust (including beaches), so still as nature intended, with minimal development.

Tourists head here for the ruins of Corfe Castle. One of Britain's most iconic and evocative survivors of the English Civil War. And the quaint unspoilt town of Swanage. There are many more beauty spots around the ‘Isle’. But it is a pain to get to in the season, with as much as 2 hour queues for the chain ferry.

This is Enid Blyton country. She stayed in Knoll House Hotel, where England lived up to it’s quirky old fashioned ways - if you like glitz then you’d have been in for a shock. The hotel has recently been sold and is sadly likely to be redeveloped. Not the sort of place favoured by ‘Hollywood aristocracy’. I recommend reading the below link.
