Viking Bay At Broadstairs

A fine day on the north Kent coast. Susan had suggested we have an early morning swim and perhaps a walk so an early start saw us travel 50 miles to enjoy breakfast on the beach at Botany Bay.

It was cloudy and cool when we arrived so we postponed the swim and were glad to walk along the coast and cliff tops via Joss Bay and Stone Bay to Broadstairs, where today’s blip was taken from the harbour arm.

Viking Bay At Broadstairs was heaving with the beach densely packed with many school parties enjoying a day out as you can see. The harbour arm is where we where we always stop for a lunch on our Viking Coast cycle ride often having fish and chips defending our food from marauding gulls. We had a coffee and scone at the Pavilion prior to walking back to Botany Bay which was crowded with yet more excited school groups, a far cry from the quiet solitude of a few hours earlier.

The tide was up, water blue, waves curling white inviting us into the water which we duly did. The second time this month for me after a gap of 5 years! I’m a chicken when it comes to getting in, bit once in it was really good. (https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/3442196)

The beach cafe had little to offer so we went to the Botany Bay Hotel for a late lunch then drove home via Aldi for supplies for the weekend and a stop for Kent cherries.

What a day. To be repeated we hope during the summer.
