Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Gardening and family history

With all the hot sunny weather of late, and despite the lack of rain,  Newburgh's communal flower beds, which are maintained by a band of volunteers, are looking quite splendid.

Extra. One of my hobbies is researching our family history and I have just managed to locate a photograph of Denis O'Gorman my great, great grandfather.
Denis was born in Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland in 1809. He emigrated to Canada in 1846 during the Irish Famine and farmed near Kelly Lake, now part of the Gatineau Park, in North Onslow Quebec. (The lake was commonly known as "Gorman's Lake" before being renamed for some obscure politician named "Kelly".) At some point he returned to Ireland where he married Mary Callahan and they had their first child Honora before returning to Canada. Their eight other children were all born in North Onslow, Quebec.
