Nicky and her Nikon

A lazy Sunday

Today my brother and sister who are twins shared a significant birthday, so the day started with phone calls to them in South Africa. We decided to have a more lazy day today after all the hiking over the past few days, so while Thomas cracked on with some work Gavin and I drove down the valley to see the Salginatobel Bridge, which is a reinforced concrete arch bridge designed by Swiss  civil engineer Robert Maillart. It was constructed across an alpine valley in Schiers between 1929 and 1930. In 1991, it was declared an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, the thirteenth such structure and the first concrete bridge so designated. We wondered why it was ever built there as Schiers is a tiny hamlet and there is a population of only 2500 in that area and the cost would have been significant. I have added a photo of it as an extra.

Then we had a quick lunch before Gavin got the train back to Zurich to fly home again. I decided to go for a short walk to photograph the stream near to the apartment and had some fun doing long exposures of the falling water. I also managed to get some more butterfly shots - they definitely are not as frenetic as the ones back home, I think they are symbolic of the quieter lifestyle here compared to SE England - much easier to photograph!

It will be a quieter few days without Gavin and even quieter when Thomas leaves on Tuesday to go back - I will have two days here on my own before Gavin comes back at the end of the week and we will then drive home together.

No surprise with Djokovic winning the Men's Final at Wimbledon - we saw him play at the Queen's tournament a few weeks ago and he is a force to be reckoned with. Good to see a young Brit (Draper) was in the Boy's Final, he will be one to watch.
