Red Squirrels and Butterflies

Another beautiful day here in Anglesey.
I went for a walk around the woods surrounding the HPB site this morning at around 8:30am hoping to see a red squirrel or two. 6 red squirrels were reintroduced into the area in 2006 and have thrived since with no grey ones around to drive them out.
Within a couple of minutes I'd seen 3 and sat down to enjoy them. With it being in the woods, the light was very poor so if you have time to look at it large it is much better.
After I'd had my fill, I headed back to the cottage and came upon a huge buddleia bush literally covered in butterflies - all different varieties - red admiral, peacock, small white, large white, comma, skipper, meadow brown. Unfortunately I had the wrong lens on but persevered all the same. I was thrilled as they were so beautiful - a few in extras for your perusal if you wish.

We had a leisurely morning just enjoying the day and then went towards Penmon point to see the lighthouse - a very enjoyable couple of hours.
After a quick drink at the café, we walked back to the priory and then went to Red Wharf Bay for a late lunch at the Boathouse - delicious.

We got home to see the last half hour of the World Cup final - seemed like a good match.

Hubby wanted to see the squirrels so at around 6pm we took a stroll back into the woods(with me not very hopeful at all as it was quite cloudy and dark by this time), but we were lucky - two or three decided they wanted to play in front of us - I think they were this years kittens.

So all in all, a wonderful day to end our long weekend. Tomorrow morning we will head home, but we've not decided where we will drop in on the way - depends how long the forecasted rain lasts....
