It’s cool and grey. I sit at the kitchen table and make a list. It gets longer, not shorter as the day progresses.

The six remaining chicks now live in the chicken house with the older hen, which has finished moulting and started laying. It is time to clean the hen house.

At tea time, Robbie gives me a lift to Broughton to collect my car. There’s no one about and no bill on the seat. They changed pads and a calliper - it’s not going to be cheap. But it stops beautifully.
