Quod oculus meus videt

Dippy On Tour

What a cracking day.  We jumped on the train into Birmingham mid morning and had a delightful day of retail therapy, dining out and cultural enlightenment.

Highlight for me was a trip to the Library of Birmingham where a photographic exhibition of images from the 1960s were juxtaposed with new images from 2017 of the same scene.  The original images were from the archive of Phylis Nicklin, a former tutor in Geography in the Department of Extramural Studies, University of Birmingham.  I grew up in 1960s Birmingham and the images had a strong resonance with my memories of the time.  I thoroughly recommend seeing the exhibition if you can.  In a nod to her wonderful work, I took the extra in a location where things have not changed much in the scene in the intervening years.

Then we popped in to meet Dippy of Natural History Museum fame.  Trying to photograph a 21.3 metre long skeleton proved challenging, but in the end the pano facility on the iPhone seems the best way of fitting everything in.

In the end we spent much longer in the city than normal but had a wonderful time for all that.
