My Favorite Lily

Dear Diary,

One of the fun things about returning from a trip, even a short one, is seeing what is blooming in the garden now.  My favorite day lily has opened!  It such a beautiful, rich color.  It is always the last one to bloom.  It was a cheerful welcome home.

Unfortunately, we did not get much rain while I was gone and there was an unpleasant crunching sound as I walked out to the garden.  Everything is dried up and stressed because of the draught and the fire danger is off the chart.  At least the severe heat and humidity has abated.  Beautiful blue skies but right now I would welcome grey, rainy days...several of them!
