Tapestry rescue

My blip

Last week I made a cushion cover from a piece of old tapestry that I found discarded in a drawer in my bedroom at my parents' house.

My mother thinks that she and I made this tapestry about thirty years ago. Although this is my kind of thing, I know for certain that I did not have a hand in its creation. My guess is that my not-so-little sister started the work and my mother finished it off for her. (I think my mother is getting mixed up with a blue and green embroidered sampler that I completed in France in 1982.)

I was going to make the cushion cover from scratch, but when I went to John Lewis to buy the fabric I found that the shop was offering velvet-covered cushions for £10 each. All that I needed to do was to hem the tapestry and stitch it to the ready-made cushion cover. The final product looks great on our new sofa.

My day

My brother-in-law dropped my middle sister off my parents' house at midday, took Mr hazelh and me to Newcastle to catch the train back to Edinburgh, and then continued his long journey home by road to Sussex.

Almost as soon as we got through the door this afternoon we booked our return journey to Newcastle for Friday. We will take over the looking after my mother from my middle sister once more that day to allow her (my sister) to fly south and help her daughter (our niece) move house over the weekend.

As for the patient, there is no indication that he will be released any time soon. However, I am hopeful that he will get out of hospital eventually, and I am pleased that my mother is thinking about making some changes in the house to accommodate him more comfortably at home.

Exercise today: walking (11,155 steps)
