The Lon Mor

I went with the Biological Records Manager at Lorn Natural History Group today to the Lon Mor, a large area of wetland which is a flood plain for the Black Lynn Burn which flows through Oban. I wanted his opinion on the wildlife potential as the site is owned by a developer who has already tipped tons of rubble into the far end and built houses on it. Local folk want it to be a 'Countryside Park' with a day centre for kids, bike track, skateboard rink and car park, and someone else suggested building a hotel on it. I want it left as it is, full of wild flowers, inundated in wet weather, great for birds - it's important as a flood plain anyway! But so few people seem to be interested. The whole of this glen was beautiful until quite recently; farmed, surrounded with trees and now there are thousands of houses, a big industrial estate, bus garages, self storage - the usual!

It's a fight to try to stop the local planners from filling up every space with houses!
