Song Thrush

Wild Wednesday: Song Thrush

When I was growing up we always had Song Thrushes visiting the garden.  This is the first one that I have seen for a very long time indeed, so she is very welcome.  She will not be that special to many of you, who see thrushes all the time, but for us this has become a very rare sighting.

We first spotted her yesterday evening, and she was back again this evening. She is very definitely a song thrush, rather than a juvenile blackbird.  One of the differentiating factors being her pink legs.  As you can see, she's a little bit shy of the photographer and is refusing to come out into the open so denying me a better shot.

Cathy waters her plants around this time, and we think that this is the attraction.  She enjoys rooting around in the flower beds once they have been watered, presumably finding all sorts of things to eat in the process.

She is very shy, not at all like her cousin the blackbirds, who will get very close to us indeed when we are in the garden, particularly if there is some gardening going on.
