Anne's Daily Encounters

By dutchdelight

To Life!

Met my two Dutch friends at Rafina and after reuniting at the home of one, we decided to get out to Rafina port with the fish restaurant for an ouzaki with fish meze.
We toasted to life every now and then in the three hours we sat there and talked of our latest encounters in life ~ ofcourse the inferno of Monday last just outside Rafina was also talked over.

My lady friend had collected me from my nephew in Vrilissia and again I was taken over mount Penteli and got to the Marathon Road (indeed where the original Marathon Run passes from).  Yesterday we took the corner towards the North up to Schinnia Beach and Marathon town, today we took the curve Southwards towards Rafina. And soon we drove along the blackened trees and scorched buildings, houses, workplaces etc. The flames had crossed this rather broad 2 ways road.... people managed to escape here, but not via the narrow alleys where the many houses are built as outdoor homes for lots of Athenians; and most were occopied by them making holidays and than many of those holiday makers were children who stayed with their grandparents at their (holiday) homes, while their parents were at work. I took some foto's of the blackened trees and scorched homes and cars, but if you want to see more of that, here's a link to pix of the inferno
