Stone Bay near Broadstairs

A splendid day cycling the Viking Way from Reculver along the North Kent Coast to Ramsgate then inland to Minster and St Nicholas at Wade and finishing with a lovely ride back along the sea wall to Reculver.

It’s a route we’ve done many times, featuring on Blip and it never disappoints. We’ve stopping off points along the way which have become part of the experience over the years.

Glorious weather, favourable winds made this another special day. We stopped at Stone Bay for a swim and lunch - a not very healthy hotdog and chips, justifiable on the grounds of cycling 33 miles in all.

Water temperature was 20c, it didn’t feel too warm at first as we were hot from the cycling but we soon got used to it. Loads of people on all the beaches we past, Viking Bay, Broadstairs, was like a colony of multicoloured seals hauled out of the water. (see extra)

All great things must come to an end. We were soon back at Reculver, enjoying an end of ride pint at the King Elthelbert Inn as we do every time.

Still 27c when we arrived home at 7.30 and now, at 11.10 its 22.8c, a balmy, quiet summer’s evening.
