Romeo, Romeo ...

So tonight was another outdoor theatre event with book club.  This time it was a promenade performance of Romeo and Juliet and we walked around Heaton Park as the scenes played out around the Hall and in the woods.

Last time we saw this theatre company it was pouring with rain and we were freezing cold.  What a difference a dry night makes!  Because you have to walk around the park, I decided to go with the cushion in a bag scenario - but my back is now wishing I took a chair!

When Romeo found out he had been banish-ED, his trousers slowly fell down!  They all did so well not to laugh out loud!

A wonderful three hour performance and a stunning scene at the end as we walked through Heaton Hall to see Juliet lying there supposedly dead.  She was surrounded by tealights and the cast were singing with black veils over their heads as a ballerina danced on points around them.  How I wish we were allowed to take photos!

A different spin at times as the scenes were interspersed with quite modern songs, particularly the end when Romeo and Juliet walked out of the family crypt to Sting's 'Fields of Gold' as fireworks were set off in front of the Hall - but it worked!

Quote for today:
Don't waste your love on someone who doesn't value it.
- William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet
