Grand!

We took a trip to the outer rim of Limoges today. It wasn't an altogether successful trip but we did manage to visit Grand Frais. They obviously follow a template for these stores but we thought that somehow Limoges offered a better experience than the one at Poitiers did. It was certainly a lot busier and that fact probably accounted for the greater freshness of the goods on offer.

Grand Frais is an astounding place though and how I wish that I could take photographs there. Imagine a store with half an aisle counter dedicated to fresh herbs alone! There were umpteen varieties of tomato and certainly more than half a dozen types of melon...

Wishing that we could carry more but being confined to one small cooler box, we managed to restrain ourselves. Amongst other items, I bagged two beautiful Hass Avocados perfectly ready for eating and some Crevettes Rose. Peches de Vigne followed. A simple meal, but fabulous.

The fresh Mayonnaise that we bought was just as a good homemade one should be and on investigating the label it turned out to have just the same ingredients, with nothing added or taken away.

Tomorrow we are having an array of unusual and very beautiful tomatoes in a simple salad with a Burrata cheese (my new favourite thing).

We also visited a nearby Asian supermarket and bought a beautiful carbon steel wok, rice noodles, fish sauce etc. Beansprouts and scallops from Grand Frais will be hitting the pan on Wednesday... and some interesting-looking Thai sausage have been scheduled for the BBQ soon.

There is hope of a thunderstorm tomorrow night and far cooler temperatures on Wednesday. Looking forward to that! It's quite ridiculous to have invested in garden furniture and BBQ just to find the weather too unbearably hot to go outside in.
