Elgar

This morning we went to Elgar's birthplace, The Firs, a National Trust property at Lower Broadheath in Worcestershire.

It's the first time we've been there and were impressed with the modern visitor centre, complete with tea room.  The cottage itself was small but well laid out with various Elgar memorabilia including his piano, violin and gramophone player. A room in the visitor centre was laid out as his study.

There was also a nice garden which included a sculpture of the man sitting on a bench enjoying the view towards the Malverns.


The picture is of a statue depicting The Dream of Gerontius. It is a miniature of the six foot version in Boston, U.S.A sculpted by American artist Jeff Rouse.

After a picnic lunch in the grounds we headed off to Evesham Country Park, now known as The Valley, where we met Jo and James for a drink in Coffee #1.
