A Mini-Break

We are in Figueira da Foz, on the coast out from Coimbra, took us about four hours to get here, but feels like a different world. We wandered out onto the largest urban beach in Europe - which has board walks down to the sea, showers, recycling bins, and rows of striped blue and white tents you can hire for the day or the season. It was quite warm, but as we walked, a fog came in, and by the time we got back, you couldn't see the buildings at all, humidity 93%, and down to 19°C; we're used to the 20's in humidity, and temperatures in the high 30's.

But it's not just that. It feels like a resort from the 60's, like Brigitte Bardot might suddenly emerge from one of the stripey tents...  Love our little 2* hotel, so Portuguese, the crisp white sheets, waxed wooden floors, and beautifully tiled bathroom.

Tomorrow, we go to the Conference.
